![]() ![]() But it has to be easy to use (one guide for everything and preferably does not require a mouse.) looking to build a cheap Media Center DVR with OTA tuner that can also stream premium "cable" over the Net. I've heard the "Roku" might be able to do that (one guide for both OTA & stream), but without DVR support (unless you spend another $200 on a 3rd-Party DVR box.) And Dad must have his DVR.Īnd that's how I got here. something my 76 year old Dad REALLY wouldn't go for! And I've found no streaming service that offers every local channel as part of their package. You must switch out of Plex (or WMC) and launch a browser to access those channels. Problem with all this is I've found no single MC software (or DVR hardware) that allows you to access BOTH OTA TV and Streaming Channels from the same guide. I set him up with unmetered extra high-speed DSL earlier last year, so I'm looking at Premium Streaming services (Philo or DirecTV-NOW. I'm investigating ways for my father to "Cut the cord" because his cable TV bill is ridiculous. I haven't tried Kodi but I'm familiar with it. Their built-in Guide is $4.99 a month (discounts if you subscribe longer) much like you can do with WMC, so that's pretty cool. It supposedly does the same thing (DVR for OTA TV) as WMC plus support for streaming your recordings over the Net to any device running their Android/iOS app (or another PC running Plex.) But if you can help my technical problems, thanks in advance.I searched around online over the weekend and found different "Media Streaming Server" software called "Plex" that looks nice. ![]() Waiting for the local cable company here to start servicing this street. I sit and wait and wait for websites to load. Oh, aside from all that, the internet service costs 25 dollars more a month than Brighthouse (comparable pricing with Cox) and is SLOWER. I'm probably going to go buy a router/modem from store, set it up, and see if that works since everything worked 4 weeks ago on Brighthouse Networks with their router/modem, and worked 3 months ago on Cox Communications using a motorola router/modem. If anyone miraculously knows how to help, that would be great. If you don't know anything useful about the WD Cloud device or using the Sling TV app on an Amazon Fire Tv, please don't give me suggestions. As for the Sling TV app, I have found others online that have the same problem when they switched to U-verse, but there is no solution found. With the hard drive, it's probably port forwarding that needs to be set up, and I found instructions on how to do that from ATT's side, but I don't know any of the ports or information that need to be done for the device since I know nothing about networking. I know it's settings in the router that are causing these problems. Since moving in, the Sling TV app on my Amazon FireTV won't load channels and the WD M圜loud hard drive holding all my photos and videos won't even register a wire connection to the router (luckily I directly connected it to laptop and took everything off). It's the ONLY option in the neighborhood I moved into. U-verse is probably considered the worst thing in my world right now. ![]()
